Weekend Warriors For Christ
Category: Current Events, Democrats, Hypocrisy, Liberalism, Politics, ReligionAccording to the Drudge Report, there was a whole lot of praying going on this weekend amongst Democrats on the campaign trail and on the Sunday talk shows. It’s nice knowing these candidates and political figures find such solace in our Lord in their attempt to bamboozle the electorate either for votes or support for their Liberal agendas.
Senator Barack Obama, during nearly a two hour service before a multiracial congregation in
an instrument of God.
Obama went on to say,
Sometimes this is a difficult road being in politics…Sometimes you can become fearful, sometimes you can become vain, sometimes you can seek power just for power’s sake instead of because you want to do service to God. I just want all of you to pray that I can be an instrument of God in the same way that Pastor Ron and all of you are instruments of God.
Then the Godly Senator from
We’re going to keep on praising together. I am confident that we can create a Kingdom right here on Earth.
It appears to me the message Obama is conveying to everyone is if we vote for the right people we can attain Utopia. To me this is nothing more than Marxism couched in religion.
Then there was the Honorable Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi on Fox News Sunday proclaiming how she finds solace in prayer.
When questioned by Chris Wallace if she ever prayed and if so, what did she pray for, Ms. Pelosi answered by saying,
First of all, I pray for President Bush all the time, and I pray especially hard that he would sign the children’s health bill because it’s so important for America’s children,” she said on Fox News Sunday. “I pray that he makes the right decisions for the American people.
What I find incredible thing about these two individuals is this. On any given Monday through Friday of any given year, these two people vehemently oppose prayer in public schools and the Ten Commandments being displayed in government buildings. They also are against Christmas celebration and Christian displays in public buildings of any kind and they fervently favor the murder of unborn babies and endorse same sex marriages. What goes here?

James,
There is a good chance that some of these liberals are actually religious. (This is particularly likely in Barack Obama’s case.) However, their religion should not be mistaken for historic Christianity. Rather, it is a form of religious liberalism.
In the 1920’s J. Gresham Machen, a Presbyterian theologian, wrote a book, Christianity and Liberalism, where he compared the religious beliefs of historic Christianity to the modern theology of religious liberalism. This book was written when the Presbyterian Church was embroiled in a struggle between these two views. Religious liberalism is a system of theology that denies the miracles of the Bible, denies the morality of the Bible, and denies that God can speak to us in any inspired way. The emphasis is on man bringing about the Kingdom of God on earth through some form of human effort. (Just like Obama said.)
In the old days, the Church would be expected to lead this effort, but now, it is usually considered necessary to support this effort by government action. Hence religious and political liberalism go hand in hand.
Ray,
Very interesting explanation regarding J. Gresham Machen’s comparisons of historic Christianity and religious liberalism. Leave it to religious liberalism deeming it necessary for government action in bringing about the Kingdom of God here on earth.
Do you suppose this enters in to why religious liberals vehemently oppose prayer in public schools and displays of Christianity on public property in addition to fervently favoring abortion and same sex marriages?
Thanks for your interesting comment. I learned something new today.
