Non-Freedoms

It is becoming clearer every day we are experiencing “degrees of non-freedom” being imposed upon us by government bureaucrats. As one critic explained it, “We are becoming a society in which instead of everything that is not forbidden is allowed, to a society that everything that is not allowed is forbidden.”

Not happy with government mandated low flush volume toilets that were intended to conserve water usage. We are now forced to patiently wait in the stand-by mode while the water tanks of our toilets refill so we can flush them a second and sometimes third time using up to 2.5 times the water as the so-called inefficient toilets. Really smart.

Then there is the banning of the incandescent light bulb in favor of a government mandated compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL). As I previously mentioned, the CFL has a 60 cycle flicker which is debilitating to those with certain auto-immune diseases and they don’t work in lower temperatures. What are we to do when our refrigerator or freezer light bulbs burn out? How about our automobile head lights and interior lighting? I guess the Electrical Engineers in Congress didn’t stop to think that one over either.

Now there is talk in the formerly free state of California for government mandated remote control thermostats (RCT). Someone else is going to decide how comfortable we are going to be in our homes. Isn’t this nice? I’m not surprised California is leading the way with this foolish mandate. What does shock me is the Socialist Republic of Maryland didn’t come up with it first. You can bet your Biederlack Blanket this RCT thing will sweep the nation once the all-knowing Mechanical Engineers in Congress get wind of this one.

This entire global warming hysteria is completely out of control. Our government is making it nearly impossible to do anything without them mandating how we will go about our daily lives. It’s all about control and taking away our freedoms and if we don’t start standing up to these people, we’re going to be in big trouble. Two things we as free people can do to solve our energy issues in this country. One - Keep the bureaucrats out of our daily lives and let the free market work its magic. Two - Show the Democrats the door next November.

    AMEN! Preach it, James!

You should get one of those Flushmate toilets. Inside the tank is a big plastic box, as your toilet refills after a flush it compresses air. It’s called a pressure assisted flush….it’s very forceful. It could probably even get rid of the BS you post on here in one flush.

California has a Republican governor. Who really profits from these new regulations? A political party or their corporate masters? There isn’t a whole lot of money in incandescent bulbs anymore so why not make everyone switch. GE and Phillips make a tone of money and then make political contributions.

Some company will make a fortune on these new thermostats. Another company will make a fortune monitoring them, because that will be privatized. The state will be stuck with enforcement and then have to turn a big chunk of the fine over to the monitoring company.

There is no free market in this country. The Fed has bailed out both the automobile industry and the airline industry at the expense of the middle class.

wow, you complain about California, last time I heard they showed the democrat gov the door and replaced him with a republican, and yet, doing as you requested, you still whine and cry like a little baby

    Sean,
Do your homework! None of those California initiatives came from a Republican bill.

  • James |

Steady Teddy is correct. The bills regarding the RCT’s in California are all Democratic “left coast” sponsored bills. What say you Mr. Onion City Joe and Sean? Apparently Onion City Joe and Sean don’t mind their toilets not flushing correctly, their lighting choices being mandated to them, and their home comfort levels being decided on what someone else considers comfortable. It’s hard to imagine people not caring about their freedoms.

I thought you Republicans were all about letting states run their own show. If the people of California want those things then their elected officials should represent them. California has tried to fuel efficiency standards for cars sold there yet the fed keeps slapping them down.

You’re so blinded by the whole liberal conservative thing you aren’t seeing the hand of the corporatocracy in all of this. Our country is no longer run by politicians carrying out the will of the people. It’s run by corporations and their lobbyists buying political influence to maximize their profit.

doesnt the republican gov of California have to sign on bills?

  • steadyteddy |

No Sean, It’s not the “whole liberal-conservative thing” it’s simply the “liberal thing”. The initiatives you cite in California as “states” inititiatives are funded with the help of “federal” money - in other words “MY” money. The state of California shot down their own fuel standards legislation when Congress shot down the bill that would “help” them pay for it. I agree, Sean, if California wants to mandate fuel efficiency standards, then let them. BUT, don’t let it effect MY cost of a vehicle because the manufacturer has to re-tool for a California car. They should pick up the entire bill… don’t pass it on to me… I want to drill our own oil… even if it kills a few Caribou.

“The initiatives you cite in California as “states” inititiatives are funded with the help of “federal” money - in other words “MY” money”

Your (and my) money already subsidizes Wal Mart, the auto industry, the airline industry, the petroleum industry. Corporate welfare for all!
