The Bucket List

Yesterday afternoon, my wife, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law invited me to join them at the movies. We checked on line to see what was showing where and if the show times would work into the evening’s plan. Of course my vote didn’t count or even matter with the movie selection for obvious reasons. As it turned out The Bucket List was playing at the Hunt Valley Mall so they decided to catch the 4:40 PM show and have a light dinner at the Hunt Valley Greystone Grille afterwards. The ladies choice of movies was a good one and it also marked a milestone in my life. I bought my first ever discounted +60 Senior movie ticket. It seems like yesterday I was arguing to convince the ticket person I was under twelve.

Two of my favorite movie actors, Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman did an outstanding job portraying men of opposite wealth, values, and life styles, each diagnosed with cancer and little time left to live. As only can happen in the movies, they decide to pursue a few things they’ve always wanted to accomplish but never had the opportunity to do because life has a funny way of just getting in the way. The movie was very entertaining and had a thought provoking message to convey.

As expected, the main characters present a fantastic performance and I would rate it as a must see movie. Hardly a dry eye nor a person choking back the tears could be found in the theater when the movie ended. Despite the described emotions of sadness, the movie somehow leaves the viewer with a sense of warmth and peacefulness once you’ve left the theater. It’s hard to explain and I guess you just have to see it for yourself to understand what I’m attempting to explain.

The movie also gave me a sliver of hope that Hollywood might be reversing it’s trend of producing immoral and unfit movies. The now failing movie industry could possibly be getting the hint and starting to produce decent movies again. Let’s hope so for everyone’s sake because I think that’s what the consumer is longing for.
