Mercury Is Hazardous To Your Health

It appears the global warming alarmist have stepped on their feet again regarding compact fluorescent light bulbs. I find it irritating that these environmentalist extremists can continually shoot from the hip in ways that take away our freedoms, not to mention the money out of our pockets. When are we going to wise up and put a stop to all of this madness?

Interesting article in yesterday’s Boston Globe titled High Efficiency Light bulbs Come With Mercury Risks.

“[I]f a compact fluorescent breaks, get children and pets out of the room. Ventilate the room. Never use a vacuum, even on a rug, to clean up a broken compact fluorescent lamps. Instead, use stiff paper such as index cards and tape to pick up pieces, and then wipe the area with a wet wipe or damp paper towel. If there are young children or pregnant woman in the house, consider cutting out the piece of carpet where the lamp broke as a precaution. Place the shards and cleanup debris in a glass jar with a screw top and remove the jar from the house.”

The article went on to explain proper methods of disposal.

“Most states allow intact compact fluorescents to be thrown away, but some — such as Vermont, Minnesota, and California — ban disposal” of intact compact fluorescent bulbs “in trash … Massachusetts is also ramping up a compact fluorescent recycling program and in May will ban disposal of any intact compact fluorescent lamp in trash.”

This is what government mandates you do when one of these compact fluorescent bulbs breaks. You can’t just throw the broken bulb out with the trash. You are mandated by those in government to hire a government certified hazmat materials contractor to dispose of the hazardous material in accordance with government regulations. Wait until you get the contractor’s bill for that task. This global warming thing is out of control and needs to be stopped before it’s too late. I predict 1 out of a 1000 individuals would call a certified contractor to dispose of the broken bulb and be confronted with a huge bill. Most of us will wrap it up in the garbage and let Waste Management unknowingly dispose of it.
