Selfish And Unpatriotic Retirees

Older Americans are living longer, are better educated, and are far wealthier than any generation before them. This of course isn’t what the liberal media and politicians would have you believe. To hear these enlightened progressives tell it, America is the land of endless soup lines where senior citizens must dumpster dive in order to eat and burn their furniture in order to heat their homes.

According to American University Professor Andrew Yarrow, senior citizens who choose to retire at “55,62, or even 65…are profoundly selfish and unpatriotic.” He further goes on to say “dropping out of the workforce leeches trillions of taxpayers dollars from the economy.”

To liberals like Andrew Yarrow and far left politicians like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, being a senior citizen in America isn’t about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It’s not even about freedom. It’s all about funding their beloved government, paying more taxes, and the redistribution of older American’s income to others for them to spend.

Here’s is an excerpt of what Mr. Yarrow had to say in his recent Baltimore Sun Op-ed. The Baltimore Sun is a notoriously left leaning newspaper located in the one party ruled Peoples Republic of Maryland. You can read the entire absurd article here.

When I hear my fellow baby boomers gleefully talk about their elaborate plans to retire ASAP, head for the Tuscan hills, or otherwise continue their lifelong quest for “self-actualization,” I have to bite my tongue. It’s not that I’m all work and no play. But there’s just something - make that lots of things - wrong, in general, with retiring at 55, 62 or even 65. I would go so far as to call it profoundly selfish and unpatriotic.

Unfortunately, Mr. Yarrow is not alone in his socialistic views and you don’t have to travel far to find like minded thinkers. Mr. Reid McFarland of Edinboro, PA shares his communal views in his recently published letter-to-the-Editor in the Erie Times News. Mr. McFarland thinks senior citizens should gladly part with their retirement savings and income to pay school taxes. You can read Mr. McFarland’s far fetched letter here.

Sure it’s selfish. But who said selfishness is a bad thing? Heck–for the last two generations, it’s been a downright virtue.

This country will be a very dangerous place to live once we are made to feel a duty to make economic sacrifices on behalf of the rest of the nation.

As for me, I’m in it for myself and my family. As a result, you’ll see my contributions to the fisc pour in.

I have been paying into that fund since I was 12 years old. It’s always a treat to read my social security statement. I will feel no guilt at all when in just one year I will pull the plug and collect my due. I wonder where all the Johnson Democrats stand on this issue. He unlocked the lockbox and destroyed the value of my investment.

What say you?
