Ban The Bag
Category: Current Events, Democrats, Elitist, Environment, Global Warming, LiberalismUp next, along with the incandescent light bulb, government controlled thermostats, battery operated vehicles, corn ethanol, and the global warming ruse, we now have the war on the plastic shopping bag. Mr. James Kraft (D), Baltimore, MD. City Councilman is calling for a ban on plastic shopping bags in his liberal nirvana of Baltimore. He compared using plastic bags with Nazi extermination tactics at a recent City Council meeting.
“We don’t want to be criticized by future generations for not doing enough now as were those who dealt with the Germans then,” Councilman Kraft said.
These are very strong words but what can we expect from someone who is leading the charge against the plastic shopping bag? These type of people always embellish their stories when forcing their will on others. Does Al Gore ring a bell? It would be nice if Mr. Kraft (D) and his fellow travelers would take a similar stance on Islamic terrorists who want to randomly murder innocent Americans.
Plastic bags have a multitude of uses once you bring them home and unpack your groceries. I’ve even purchased my very own plastic shopping bag wall dispenser which I proudly have hanging in my garage. If it weren’t for the plastic shopping bag, what would I use to pick up my dog’s poop piles with? If that’s not keeping the planet greener, nothing is. I also re-use the bags for wrapping up unpleasant smelling garbage items before tossing them in the trash. As far as I’m concerned, the plastic bag is one of man’s greatest inventions and the truth be told, I’m not alone in my thinking.
Not only are plastic bags cheaper to produce, they are also more environmentally friendly to produce. So what is Councilman Kraft’s beef? This is nothing more than another text book example of an elitist government bureaucrat putting his big brother nose where it doesn’t belong. Why can’t these people just leave us alone.
I’ve seen this war on plastic shopping bags coming for some time now. My first hint was when I noticed grocery stores such as Wegmans and Whole Foods offering cloth shopping bags at check out counters for a $1.00 apiece. My first thoughts were who in the heck would be foolish enough to purchase these bags to carry their groceries home in? Then again, I never thought anyone would buy a hybrid vehicle either. I’m all for a greener planet but this global warming thing is completely out of control.

Perhaps Mr. Kraft would rather that we go back to those wonderful old brown paper bags. Just think of the trees we could cut down to produce all those bags. I too have a plastic bag container hanging on the wall. They are very useful and I believe if someone took a poll (nothing is valid these days unless we have a poll to confirm it) that these humble little plastic grocery bags would the nations number one “most recycled product”.
