Unions, Democrats and Barack Obama
Category: Barack Obama, Democrats, Economy, Government Madness, Labor, Liberalism, Politics, UnionsUnions in the private sector might be going the way of the typewriter, however, they’re very much alive and thriving in the public sector. The Wall Street Journal had an excellent op-ed yesterday pointing out several of the reasons unions do so well and how union wages and work rules are draining the public treasury. All made possible of course under the watchful eye of the union enabling Democrats in Congress on the taxpayer’s dime.
The first paragraph of that eye opening op-ed hits hard on how the taxpayers in this country are being deceived by those who claim to want change, i.e. Barack Obama.
What do the farm bill, the cap-and-trade global warming bill, the clean water bill, the housing bailout bill, and the school construction bill all have in common? Not much, except that in each one and countless others the Democratic majority in Congress has inserted “prevailing-wage” requirements that amount to a super-minimum wage.
Apparently the Democrats in Congress haven’t taken to heart or learned any lessons from the demise of the entire Great Lakes Region (aka. The Rustbelt) due to union labor and inflated wages. Another blaring example of union destruction ism is our public school system. Unions have all but destroyed a once great and very successful school system in this country. You don’t have to go very far to get a first hand look at the results of our failed education system. Just take a look at some of our recent high school graduates working the counter at any Sheetz or 7-Eleven. It’s very disheartening to say the least.
Unions are nothing more than Socialism’s little brother and over time unions destroys everything they touch. Mimicking liberalism and government entitlement programs, unions spawn laziness in potentially productive people and enable the non-productive worker. In the end, we all suffer for having unionism forced upon us via legislation. A person’s right to become a union member should also be a personal choice, not a government mandate.
