Very good comment Melissa. I couldn't agree more with you. It's people like you and I who need to get the word out there and get these politicians attention. Thanks so much for your input and thoughts.

Well, the solution isn't ONLY drilling, here. Obviously there is a shortage, and obviously additional drilling and exploration is the best way to correct such shortage. However, it's only a part-time fix. We also need to simultaneously invest in alternative (renewable - I cannot stress this enough) energy sources, more efficient mass transit/freight movement accessible to more areas (namely rail), and a more friendly pedestrian infrastructure to encourage the use of walking, biking, scooters, etc. for urban/suburban travel. Along with this, I believe our modes of power generation need a boost - nuclear, solar, wind, and hydraulic power generation should be expanded and developed in the US. I would truly enjoy seeing both of the candidates promote these options. It's something EVERYONE, despite political affiliation should get behind, political pissing matches aside. More people need to realize there is indeed a shortage and that the world's oil supply is NOT endless. Take our own region, for example. Obviously, we need to curb our demand. What did it take to curb our demand? Higher prices at the pump. As absolutely unreasonable as that may seem to the majority of us, it's a short term (major) inconvenience for a move toward more long-term sustainable options. As much as I hate to shill out that money, I must also realize it's been a major catharsis in my thinking, travel routines, and daily regiment. I must also remind myself that even at $4.00/gallon, I am getting a bargain compared to the rest of the world. It also makes me realize January was a super time to invest in a road bike, and that personal decision was basically full of win :)

Good luck in expecting leadership from the Democrats. What have they done since they took control? Drill here... Drill now... Save money!

I barely remember the Home Drive-In. When I was very young, I think I recall going there with my parents but it is a very vague memory. Enjoyed reading the link to your previous blog item about it and the various comments there.

Also, I've always wondered about the term "gateway to Presque Isle". It seems like you are using that phrase to describe the area immediately north of the intersection of 6th and Peninsula Dr. along PA Rt. 832. However, I always considered the area down the hill by the old Beachcomber/Sara Coyne immediately preceding the 'official' park entrance (where the gates are that they swing shut when the park is closed) to be the 'gateway' to the state park itself. Not a big deal but it's funny what sort of common usage evolves in our daily conversations. Similarly growing up, we locals always called it "The Peninsula" ... "Presque Isle" was a name used only by out-of-town tourists weaned on AAA or oil company roadmaps.

You have a great blog, by the way.

I believe the card is circa 1950. As a young child I was always amazed with the big fish. It was located at the gateway to Presque Isle and I believe it was originally the facade for a hot dog stand. I don’t recall when it was permanently taken down but I think it may have even been moved from the original 6th & Peninsula Dr. location to a strip of land between 8th Street and 6th street adjacent to the old Home Drive-In Restaurant prior going MIA.
